Out of Spite VII
Posted: 1st August 2005
Tagged: General
The line-up is subject to change but so far looks fantastic. This is the 8th Out of Spite and shoule be another winner. We're lucking forward to Frankie Stubbs, The Leif Ericsson, Remainderfour, Pylon and of course the final, tear-jerking Dugong gig. See you there!
OUT OF SPITE VIII
Descriptions below created by Andrew from the Collective.
Friday 12th August (7pm start, £5):
CAPDOWN
Political ska-punk from Milton Keynes, catch em a fortnight before they play Leeds Festival and for a damn sight less money too...
VANILLA POD
Melodic punk from Kings Lynn and now the only band to have played every single Out Of Spite.
BUZZKILL
Horn fuelled rock and roll from Leeds, been around a bit and work hard, never heard them play a set that was less than impecable
THE LEIF ERICSSON
Punk rock like Gunmoll meets early Snuff, now a four piece. Album out in the not too distant future on Bombed Out Records
THE SWORD
Good, honest punk rock from West Yorkshire. Featuring Dugong and Joe Ninety people but sounding little like either, top dog.
(Followed by Hospital Radio at the Bassment, £1 discount with stamp)Saturday 13th August (1:30pm start, £7):
PYLON
Classy indie rock goodness from Wakefield, album coming out on Firefly records in the not too distant future.
FRANKIE STUBBS
Knarled acoustic gold from Leatherface frontman. Quite simply the best songwriter UK punk has ever known, bar none.
MILLOY
Driving melodic punk like HWM meets Wakefield, so ballsy it's frightening and never sounding anything less than amazing.
BILLY NO MATES
Duncan from Snuff's solo project, melodic punk rock featuring an all-star (well almost) backing band.
TWOFOLD
Poppy hardcore tunes to dance to. Now with added keys. From down Berkshire they really don't play Leeds enough.
THE RITUALS
Poppy punk rock from Italy in the vein of Dillinger 4, their first time to the UK.
FOUR LETTER WORD
Welsh punk rock back with a steady line-up and a new album. Agressive and political but with melody.
THE DAUNTLESS ELITE
Punk from Leeds with a bits that sound like Fig. 4.0 but not as good.
BEDFORD FALLS
Indie rock with the emphasis on rock from Wales sounding like Buffalo Tom. Very, very good.
CHILLERTON
Portsmouth 3 piece playing stripped down mid-paced gruff punk a la Gunmoll.
REMAINDERFOUR
Female fronted quality post-hardcore from London, album out now on Bombed Out Records
YOU ME AND THE ATOM BOMB
Relatively new band playing Lawrence Arms / Broadways style punk from Portsmouth featuring members of Jets Vs Sharks.
Sunday 14th August (3pm start, £5):
DUGONG
Probably their last ever gig, which makes this a sad occaision given how freakin great they are. Emo/Indie/post-hardcore/punk from Wakefield
THE TAKE
Rocking melodic tunes from Wales on Household Name records
THE SEX MANIACS
Bastard rock and roll garage punk. And quite offensive to boot.
NATHANIEL GREEN
Poppy organ driven goodness from Wakey. Performing without the Shitstorm so feeling slightly more mellow.
THE MERCURY LEAGUE
Fast, heavy hardcore punk with melody from the North East, a bit like Rise Against.
NEW CUT SMILE
Nice tunes from Leeds types trading electric guitars for acoustics but keeping the drums and bass for a fuller sound
Acoustic in bar:
MIA RIDDLE
Relaxing and mellow songwriting from NYC, on tour with...
JAMES BLACK
Sounding a little like Paul Weller doing acoustic Jam songs from Leamington Spa.
GET CAPE, WEAR CAPE, FLY!
Acoustic guitar with electronic accompanyment, very nice. Good name too!
THE WARLORD
Heartfelt one man action from soon to be ex-Dugong drummer, although, he's playing guitar as a solo drummer just wouldn't be that good really.
ANTI-SOCIAL MIXTAPE
Ponte based 2 piece with political slant.
